Volunteering
We’re very proud and appreciative of our team of volunteers who give their time and enthusiasm to support our work. Why not join us and make a huge difference to the lives of people with sight loss in Berkshire.
As a volunteer you will give your time, energy and enthusiasm to supporting people with a visual impairment. You will be making a real difference to the lives of many individuals who live in Berkshire who may feel vulnerable and alone and helping them to live life to the full. Volunteers are at the heart of our organisation.
Our volunteers are involved in various roles. Some examples:
- Telephone befriending
- Assisting with social and virtual activities
- Club volunteers
- Sports volunteers
- Office work
We would love you to join our team.
Why volunteer?
There may be many reasons why you are considering volunteering, from your own personal experience of visual impairment to wanting to put something back into the community you live in. You may simply want to meet new people, become part of a team, learn new skills or donate spare time to a worthwhile cause. Hear from some of out volunteers about why they volunteer.
What's involved?
We have opportunities for all members of our community and we want you to join us.
Our volunteers are offering a phone befriending service to our members. Telephone befriending helps them to feel less isolated. If the befriender role sounds like you, please get in touch!
From the comfort of your own home, you could also help with our weekly virtual pub quiz and other activities. Or if you know your way around technology and have enough patience to help someone else, we’d love to tell you more about becoming a tech buddy.
We are also looking for people to help with our face-to-face activities. Could you collect visually impaired members from their homes and transport them to and from clubs/activities, using your own vehicle? Or would you like to take part in social activities and sports?
Maybe you would like to find new ways to raise money, or help to raise awareness of our charity. Or you’re looking to help us with your administrative skills.
There are many ways to provide companionship, support and practical help to hundreds of people who are visually impaired.
