Low Vision Fitover UV Filters and Mirror Polarised

The Equipment and Sight Loss Support Teams have been demonstrating Low Vision and Polarised Mirror Cocoons to our members over the recent months. Many members have found the Cocoons to be instantly beneficial, improving the details they are able to see when wearing them.

  • Low Vision Cocoons offer a full spectrum of filters designed to enhance contrast and/or reduce glare for those with low vision impairments.
  • Polarised Mirror Fitovers are designed for the harshest, brightest outdoor conditions where intense reflected surface glare can greatly inhibit visual performance.

There are a wide range of frame sizes to choose from, designed to fit snugly, but comfortably over all styles of prescription glasses.

Whilst the Cocoons will not work for everyone, some of our members are using them with great success. The most popular filters amongst our members are:

Polarised Silver Mirror

The reflective properties of the mirror coat prevent intense glare from disrupting the performance efficiency of the  polarisation, resulting in a controlled, consistent optical environment. The neutral grey base tint delivers natural colour definition. They are great for outdoors use on a bright sunny day, but not for use indoors.

Lemon UV Filters

The non-polarised Polaré lemon filter is an ultra highcontrast absorptive tint that allows 86% visible light transmission, while blocking 100% of lightwaves up to 470 nm and all UVA/UVB rays. The filter is designed to absorb 40% of blue light and 70% HEV (High-Energy ultra-violet light) that can cause irritating eyestrain and fatigue.

These are the most popular filter for those with any hazy visual conditions like AMD and Cataracts. They reduce glare and drastically brighten what the wearer is looking at. They are for indoor use.

Boysenberry UV Filters

The filter is designed to absorb 90% of blue light and HEV (High-Energy ultra-violet light) that can cause irritating eyestrain and fatigue. These are recommended for those that suffer with headaches/ migraines and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
