We are a dynamic local charity supporting over 1700 blind and visually impaired children and adults across Berkshire. We have an ethos of challenging expectations of what blind and visually impaired people can achieve, both society’s and their own! We aim to walk alongside them whenever they need us. We support them to find jobs, use assistive tech, take part in sports, take part in activities they are often excluded from (e.g. adapted escape rooms, pottery and gardening), support them to build the confidence and skills to access their local community independently after their sight loss e.g. return to their local high street or travel to work or university, ensure they can be independent in their own home and access the support they need, and ensure they do not become isolated and alone. We are a small, social and supportive staff team who would be thrilled to have you join us!
Sight Loss Support Officer
Salary: £26,325
Employment type: Permanent
Employment hours: 37.5 hours a week
Location: Based from our Reading Office, with frequent travel across Berkshire.
The Sight Loss Support Officer is a pivotal role carrying out assessments of the needs of visually impaired adults, with an ongoing programme of support to promote independence for visually impaired people. It includes promoting the use of appropriate technology, aids and adaptations and supporting visually impaired people to develop the necessary skills to benefit from them.
The Sight Loss Support Officer role is a wonderful opportunity, and the successful candidate will be providing invaluable support work for visually impaired people, assessing their needs, supporting them to overcome barriers, and build independence and resilience.
We are looking for someone with a passion for supporting people to live enriched lives, and therefore you should be someone who is able to work innovatively and be an advocate for our services.
Benefits include company pension, enhanced annual leave, flexible working, free tea and coffee while working in the office, free parking, mileage paid at 45p per mile.
