“Since joining Berkshire Vision I have come alive again”

Bimla has Macular Degeneration and started to lose her sight in 2018. It happened so slowly that it took her a while to notice that something was wrong. The warning signs came when she started to clip the curb when driving and she struggled to use her computer.

Losing her sight was a shock to Bimla and sent her into a downward spiral of depression. She lost her job and no longer knew what she was going to do with her life. She had lots of support from her friends and family who helped to boost her confidence and she realised that she could have a full and normal life, but it was down to her to make that happen.

Bimla’s local council told her about Berkshire Vision and since joining it has opened up a whole new world for her.

Prior to her sight loss she played a lot of sports and through Berkshire Vision she has been able to enjoy this again, joining in on blind football and golf sessions.  She has also been creating arts and crafts with the Touch To See packs and volunteering as a telephone befriender to help support other Berkshire Vision members.

Bimla also attends our AktivEyes group in East Berkshire, who organise fun and exciting activities every month, which she loves.

Bimla loves being a member of Berkshire Vision and feels like she has “come alive again”. She is always trying new things and regaining more confidence.
