“It’s the contact with other people, being in contact with other folks in similar situation and being able to share experiences.”

Mike is 80 and lives in Tilehurst, Reading. Prior to his sight loss he used to play lawn bowls and enjoyed driving.

He had lived with poor sight since childhood but 2005, due to Glaucoma and a Detached Retina, he lost all of his vision. As a result of this he had to give up his driving license and lawn bowls, two of the things he loved doing the most. 

Mike was referred to Berkshire Vision via the Eye Clinic and feels he has had enormous support from Berkshire Vision, both socially and with practical advice and support which has enabled him to get on with his life. At home Mike has the support of his wife Jenny who has helped him to cope and provided invaluable support.

He has taken part in many face-to-face activities, but the biggest benefit to him has been from the Remote activities. Mike (and Jenny) have participated in remote Coffee Mornings, the Weekly Quiz, Murder Mystery’s (which they say is great fun), Wine Tastings, virtual Afternoon Tea, Cheese Tasting and History Talks.

“You name it, we have probably done it”.

He also attended our Living Well with Sight Loss Course and found this very useful.
