Sara is in her 40’s and has lived in Reading all her life. In 2004 she was diagnosed with diabetes; this caused complications with her sight and in 2019 she was diagnosed with Diabetic Retinopathy. Diabetic Retinopathy is a complication of diabetes, caused by high blood sugar levels damaging the back of the eye (retina).
Since being referred to Berkshire Vision by the hospital she has benefitted from a number of our services.
She enjoys going out for walks with her face to face befriender who has also helped her to use a cane outside and to tape things to make them easier to see. Sara also has a telephone befriender who calls her once a week to check in with her and to make sure she isn’t feeling lonely or isolated.
Sara joins in with a number of Berkshire Vision activities including 10 pin bowling, boat trips, reptile encounters, coffee mornings, quizzes and escape rooms.
Sara loves that Berkshire Vision gives her the opportunity to try a variety of activities and get out more and meet people.
