Andy, who lives in Reading, lost his sight in 2020 due to complications from diabetes. He is embarking on an extraordinary challenge to raise funds for us. Andy who has been supported by us for the past five years, will be cycling the equivalent of 29,000km—the distance around the world—on his indoor exercise bike.
In 2020 Andy’s woke up one morning struggling to see. A visit to eye casualty clinic resulted in Andy being registered as severely sight impaired, due to long-standing complications from diabetes.. Despite the challenges, Andy refused to let his condition define him. He turned to indoor cycling as a way to stay active, manage his diabetes, and maintain his mental resilience.
“Cycling has been a lifeline for me,” said Andy. “It’s helped me regain confidence, stay healthy, and push my limits. Now, I want to use this challenge to give back to Berkshire Vision, a charity that has supported me and so many others living with sight loss.”
Andy will be cycling on his indoor bike at home and at Buzz Gym in Reading with events planned along the year for others to join in and support him.
