On a very wet and drizzly Sunday morning 12 members, supporters and staff of Berkshire Vision came together to take part in the Rotary Reading Santa Run and Walk 2023. With over 500 Santas of all ages and abilities taking part on the day whilst the weather was not bright the festive cheer was in full force.
The event offered the option for participants to either run or walk in a 2K or 5K course. With the 2km event kicking off first all the Berkshire Vision team on the day came together to cheer on our youngest team member Silva Schulz, one of our visually impaired members and her mum and Equipment Officer Justine Schulz. They both did an incredible job lighting up the course to cheers as they ran along.
With the 2K over and the 5K set to start the rest of our team took to the start line. With three more visually impaired runners taking part in Colin Chandler, Fatima Bangura and Trustee Bob Bristow. With three just as incredible support runners in Ashley Pinder, Sarah Bangura and our very own chair Jane Veys.
Also taking part on the day and helping raise funds and festive spirits we were joined by supporters and staff; Adam Gibbons, Darryn Day and Jennie Drake. Everyone who took part on the day absolutely smashed the course whilst looking fantastic.
Whilst having fun and raising the profile of Berkshire Vision were key parts of the day this was primarily a fundraising event and I am so excited to announce that the team completely knocked our fundraising target out of the park raising over £1500 and still counting!
This day could not of been the success it was without our incredible runners/walkers and to all those who generously donated to their efforts! The money these events raise helps us continue the vital work we do supporting those living with visual impairments in Berkshire.
